Together the two drive units produce an efficient and unique driving experience. Driving Assistant Professional.
The optional Driving Assistant Professional offers optimum comfort and safety during critical or monotonous traffic situations. Apart from the contents of the Driving Assistant, it also includes Steering and Lane Control Assistant with extended functions, Emergency Stop Assistant and Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection.
Reversing Assistant.
The Reversing Assistant stores the last 50 m of the driven path in forward travel up to 35 km/h, so that it can be retracted if required. You are relieved of the steering work and can concentrate on monitoring the vehicle environment.
BMW Laserlight.
The optional BMW Laserlight illuminates a range of up to 650m whilst in laser high-beam mode, nearly twice as far as that of conventional headlights. Better visibility in the dark significantly increases safety. Blue accents and the lettering “BMW Laser” in the headlight also underline the technological standards and the sportiness of the vehicle.
BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation function includes two high-quality displays consisting of a high-resolution 12.3" Control Display that can be operated by touch and a fully digital 12.3" instrument display. The BMW Operating System 7 can also be operated via the iDrive Controller.
BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
Communicate with your vehicle using the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Say natural commands to operate numerous vehicle functions. It can also explain topics about your vehicle and helps you to get to know your BMW even better.
Remote Software Upgrade.

The BMW Digital Key turns your compatible smartphone* into a vehicle key. To unlock, simply hold the smartphone next to the door handle; before starting your BMW place it on the smartphone tray. In addition, you can send a Digital Key to up to five friends, and even limit the maximum speed, for example – ideal for novice drivers.

Drive train and chassis technologies at a glance.
From the economical 4-cylinder diesel engine to the impressive torque of the 6-cylinder petrol engine, the BMW 5 Series Saloon showcases its athleticism each journey. With advanced chassis technologies, such as the tuned suspension components, the experience of the ultimate driving machine can be fulfilled.
Mild hybrid technology.
The mild hybrid technology serves to recuperate the kinetic energy during braking and supports the combustion engine during acceleration. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions while giving you a dynamic advantage. The mild hybrid technology also makes the Automatic Start/Stop function much faster and much more comfortable (excludes M550i xDrive).
Adaptive suspension.
The optional Adaptive suspension makes it possible to ideally adjust the damper characteristics to suit any given driving situation, improving roll comfort and driving dynamics. In addition to the standard COMFORT setting for increased driving comfort, the SPORT program can also be selected for athletic damper settings.
Integral Active Steering.
Integral Active Steering (available exclusively on the M550i xDrive) combines support that varies based on the steering angle on the front axle, and rear wheels that also contribute to steering. At lower speeds, it offers greater manoeuvrability and agility by turning the rear wheels opposite the front wheels. Beginning around 60 to 80 km/h, the rear wheels turn parallel to the front wheels, to increase driving stability and comfort.
BMW xDrive.
The optional intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system smoothly and variably distributes drive power to the front and rear wheels for added traction, driving dynamics and safety in every driving situation. For even better agility, the electronically controlled power distribution for instance counterbalances oversteer or understeer on bends.

BMW roof box 520.
The modern roof box in black with titanium silver side panels has a capacity of 520 litres and is compatible with all BMW roof rack systems. Due to the fact that it can be opened from both sides and has triple central locking on each side it is convenient to load and lock for theft protection.
BMW luggage compartment mat.
The durable, anti-slip, water-resistant fitted mat with raised borders on all sides and a shapely design protects the luggage compartment from dirt and moisture. Designed in black with a stainless steel inlay, it perfectly matches the interior.
Travel & Comfort System – Tablet holder.
The tablet holder is adjustable in terms of size and is attached to the separately available basic carrier or to the optional equipment “Travel & Comfort”. It provides a secure hold for a wide range of Apple or Samsung tablets with BMW safety case from 7" to 11". It can be rotated by 360° and locked in any desired inclination.

M Performance steering wheel.
Convincing arguments to hand: thanks to its Alcantara grip area, the M Performance steering wheel is especially pleasant and firm to hold – for a more direct steering sensation.
