Recycled material is material that has been separated and recycled into a new part or for a different product. Recycled material can be used for components as long as they do not lead to any functional limitations. This usually means components that are not prominent safety features.
For instance, wheel arch trims are predestined to be made of recycled plastic material. Recycled materials are used in the boot ventilation and mounting of the central console of the BMW 7 Series. Insulation made of flock compound - an insulating material made out of 80 to 90 percent recycled PUR foam - is used for the rear parcel shelf.
To benefit the environment and to save costs, recycled material can account for 15 - 20 per cent in weight of the total mass of plastic materials used. This saves resources and introduces closed-loop recycling processes.
