BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engines in the BMW 520i and 528i.

Mature but not at the end of the development cycle: the combustion engine still holds considerable potential.

With every new generation of engines the BMW engineers set new benchmarks to increase dynamics and efficiency. And this is also true of the four-cylinder petrol engines BMW 520i and 528i. These new power trains with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology combine a TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, twin Vanos and High Precision Injection. The intelligent technology package dramatically reduces fuel consumption while allowing impressive performance over a wide range of speeds. As a result, the 528i accelerates with 180 kW (245 hp) from 0 to 100 km/h in a sporty 6.4 seconds – with average fuel consumption of 7.1 to 7.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions from 165 to 172 g/km. The BMW 520i also sets standards in efficiency: while 135 kW (184 hp) power the vehicle from standstill to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, the four-cylinder engine consumes 7.0 to 7.3 l of fuel per 100/km with CO2 emissions of 163-170 g/km.
