Red lights, traffic jams, road works – in everyday driving situations there are countless instances where the engine is idling, unnecessarily burning fuel. The Auto Start Stop function, a BMW EfficientDynamics technology, makes this a thing of the past.

The Auto Start Stop function switches off the engine when the vehicle is not moving or if the driver disengages the clutch. The intelligent electronics system has already calculated how much the battery is charged and if other systems – such as the air conditioning or rear windscreen heating – require more energy. When the journey continues, the engine is started immediately when the clutch is engaged.
The result is the elimination of unnecessary fuel consumption and emissions.

The Auto Start Stop function is used in the four-cylinder models with a manual six-speed transmission.
