THE INTELLIGENT WAY TO MORE DRIVING PLEASURE.

BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 3 Series Saloon.

The more you can focus on driving, the greater the pleasure you enjoy. Which is why the BMW 3 Series Saloon relieves you of a lot of tasks. The Driving Assistant warns of any upcoming dangers. The Navigation system Professional ensures that you’ll have no unpleasant surprises, even in unfamiliar surroundings. And with the on-board helpers at hand, parking is more comfortable than ever before.

DRIVE ASSIST.

The Driving Assistant package combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and approach control and person warning with light city braking function.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the indicator has been activated.
Whereas the approach control warning with light city braking function detects vehicles, the person warning with light city braking function reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW 3 Series responds immediately when the approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins flashing and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The person warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.

ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP&GO FUNCTION.

ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP&GO FUNCTION.

Active cruise control with Stop&Go function, incl. radar-based approach control warning with braking function offers the option of greater comfort and safety in traffic jams. The system maintains a speed preselected by the driver, as well as the distance to the driver ahead. The vehicle takes over accelerating and braking and keeps the predetermined distance to the car ahead even in slow-moving traffic and down to a stand-still in traffic jams. If the car approaches the vehicle ahead of it, or if another vehicle enters the lane, the system precisely adjusts the speed to take the other vehicle into account. It can be activated at speeds of up to 210 km/h.
The Stop&Go function not only automatically regulates speed down to standstill, it also automatically accelerates back up to the desired speed within a limited time frame as soon as traffic flow allows.
If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW responds immediately when the approach control warning is activated. The system operates in phases. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins to flash and an acoustic warning is sounded, and finally the brakes are applied sharply.

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.

When sitting in the cockpit, all the information you need will be right in front of you, thanks to the BMW Head-Up Display. It projects data onto the windscreen in high resolution and full colour, with the projection appearing as if it were approximately 2.3m in front of the car. This allows it to be read quickly and easily, with minimal distraction.
Information displayed includes your current speed (and depending on equipment) navigation instructions, speed limit info, telephone and entertainment lists, along with information and warnings from the various driver assistance systems. And because the BMW driving experience is tailored to you, you will only see information that you choose to see.

PARKING.

Intelligent systems for easier parking are available as an option with the new BMW 3 Series Saloon. For example, Park Assist makes parking parallel and perpendicular to the road into a hassle-free experience. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces – even tight parallel parking spaces – while driving past at a low speed (below 21 mph) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars. When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and Park Assist takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes..

  • Rear view camera

The Rear view camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The Rear view camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 15 km/h, for example when parking.
The guidelines and coloured obstacle markings that appear in the Control Display show the driver if the selected parking spot is big enough to accommodate the car – which makes parking easier. When the steering wheel is at full lock, the system displays red turning circle lines and green guide lines that adapt to the steering wheel movements.
The Rear view camera is automatically deactivated after ten metres or when the speed exceeds 15 km/h. In conjunction with the trailer tow hitch, the Rear view camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier thanks to a practical zoom function.

  • Parking assistant

The Parking assistant makes parking parallel to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals.
When parking without Parking assistant, the Lateral parking aid uses additional sensors to monitor the areas to the sides of the car and represent obstacles on the Control Display. This way the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

  • Surround View

Surround View includes the camera-based functions Top View, Side View and Rear view camera. Cameras in the exterior mirrors and a rear view camera provide a 270° view around the vehicle.
Top View displays the areas on the side of the car for more convenient manoeuvring. Side View makes navigating areas with low visibility, such as exits or confusing intersections, safer. Two digital cameras on the left and right of the front of the car capture the traffic situation in front of the vehicle. This enables early detection of oncoming traffic so that the driver can react appropriately. The Side View function is automatically deactivated when the car reaches 15 km/h. The driver can then choose to activate the Rear view camera, Top View or Side View.
The camera systems are activated when the car is put into reverse or the PDC button or Side View button is pressed. The images captured by the cameras are shown on the Control Display.
