PROBABLY THE BEST CO-DRIVER EVER.

BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 2 Series Coupé.

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is already equipped with a reliable front-seat passenger: the numerous assistance systems from BMW ConnectedDrive. They support the driver and allow him to really enjoy the unique driving experience. They give timely warning when needed and help you park. Or lend a hand when manoeuvring with the Rear View camera acting as a third eye. The BMW 2 Series Coupé is a reliable partner that lets you concentrate on the most important thing en route: the road.

DRIVING ASSISTANT.

The Driving Assistant safety equipment combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and Approach control and Person warning with light city braking function.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the indicator has been activated.
Whereas the Approach control warning with light city braking function identifies vehicles, the Person warning with light city braking function recognizes pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach control warning is activated. First a warning symbol appears, which begins to flash in the next stage, and then an acoustic signal sounds. If the driver still does not react, at speeds of up to 60 km/h the system begins to brake by itself. At speeds of approximately 20-25 km/h, Person warning helps to prevent accidents with pedestrians, and at speeds of up to 60 km/h, it reduces the severity of the accident. If the system needs to intervene, it preconditions the brakes for faster responsiveness and begins braking if necessary. The Attentiveness assistant monitors the driver's behaviour for signs of fatigue. When it detects any abnormalities, a suggestion to take a break is shown in the Control Display.

iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.

The iDrive Touch Controller (part of navigation system Professional) enables the Control Display to be conveniently operated with a single hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated into the Controller, it is easy to enter information such as destinations for the navigation system in handwriting. The Controller can also be rotated and pressed to access many functions, change various settings and scroll through lists. It can be easily and intuitively operated, as it is based on one's sense of touch. This makes life especially easy for the driver since it keeps distraction from traffic to an absolute minimum. All functions operated using the Controller can be viewed clearly in the Control Display.

SPEED LIMIT INFO

Better safe than sorry: the Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator displays the current speed limit as well as information on no-overtaking zones. This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs. This information is processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system. By incorporating additional features of the car, the system can also calculate variable speed limits – for instance in wet conditions or at different times of the day. This equipment is only available in conjunction with the Navigation System Business or Professional.

PARKING ASSISTANT

The Parking assistant makes parking parallel and perpendicular to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces – even tight parallel parking spaces – while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals.
As the car slowly approaches an obstacle, the Parking assistant is automatically activated via the function "Auto PDC" (Automatic Park Distance Control). The system's enhanced functionality includes supporting the driver when parking in spaces that are perpendicular to the road. The PDC also emits a warning signal if the car becomes too close to obstacles.
When parking without Parking assistant, the Lateral parking aid uses additional sensors to monitor the areas to the sides of the car and represent obstacles on the Control Display. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

REAR VIEW CAMERA

The Rear View camera allows you to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The rear view camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 20 km/h, for example when parking.

Interactive track lines indicate whether the chosen parking space is big enough for the car and support the driver during parking by marking areas in colour on the Control Display. In conjunction with the tow hitch, the rear view camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.
